Did you know that City of London is not a borough? Did you also know that City of London has its own its own government, its own mayor and its own independent police force? Pretty cool, right? You can also look out for iron cast statues of dragons, if you spot any - you know you’re in the right place. City of London is mostly known for its financial district and it’s the home to the Bank of England. However, there’s more to City of London than just finance. In this blog post we will tell how you can access free panoramic views of London, eat at a highest restaurant in London and visit some of the greenest parts of London!
Duck & Waffle - Highest 24hr Restaurant
Let’s start you off with some fancy yet delicious breakfast at the highest restaurant in London. This place definitely lives up to its expectations! As soon as we got up to the 40th floor, we were greeted by some panoramic views of London. Allow the waiter to take you to your seat; if you see an empty table by the window, don’t be afraid to ask the waiter to be seated there. Don‘t know what to order? Always go for their speciality! Micha went for Duck & Waffle and I (Justina) ordered Duck Benedict. We certainly enjoyed the food and of course the stunning views of London made it very special.

Barbican Centre
Now that your stomach is full, you are ready to explore the City of London.
One of the most intriguing places that we’d suggest visiting is “Barbican Estate” & “Barbican Centre”. It’s a residential area filled with brutalist style buildings and softened with a green lake, ponds, plants and even ducks! It’s an area not to be missed! So many people go there to escape the busy streets of London and get some cool shots for their Insta!
Barbican Conservatory
Whilst you’re in Barbican area, you should also check out the Barbican Conservatory! The entry to this concrete jungle is absolutely FREE and it hosts some of the most exotic and even endangered plants including date palms, tree ferns, coffee, ginger plans and many others! Don’t forget to check out their opening hours because the conservatory stays closed on some days.

Leadenhall Market
If you are a fan of Harry Potter or just simply adore the history of London - you should definitely check out Leadenhall Market. It is located under a stunning Victorian style roof and it’s one of the oldest markets in London, where you can brunch, take pictures or buy some of the London’s finest cheeses and meat.

St Dunstan in the East Church Garden
Tucked away from the busy streets of London, St Dunstand Garden is a secret garden not to be missed! The church is no longer whole as it suffered a lot throughout the years - from the Great Fire of London to German bombings. This park is quite mysterious with the trees growing through windows and wines have become entangled amongst the ruins. So grab a coffee, your favourite book and soak up all the sun! We’ve only visited this place in summer but I think autumn would be even better with all the golden leaves!

Free Views of London
Have you ever wondered where to find the best views of London but didn’t want to pay for it? Yes - same here! We’ve got two places in mind that you might want to add to your itinerary.
First up - One New Change Observation Deck. Just before you enter the building, look for a walkway with glass windows - right ahead of it you’ll see St.Pauls Cathedral. After you get to the top of the roof top, you’ll have an access to some epic views of St.Paul’s Cathedral, The Shard, London Eye and much more! No reservation required.
If you want to see even better views of London for free - get yourself to the “Walkie Talkie” Sky Garden.
